Our History
Destynie Sebrell Sickle Cell Foundation was founded as a not-for-profit community based organization founded in 2022 in memory of Destynie Sebrell, a life long fighter, and perseverer of sickle cell disease. Despite her medical health challenges, Destynie continued to strive in which she graduated from Franklin High School in June 2017. After high school, she attended Virginia Union University.
Destynie endured several health barriers during her tenure at Virginia Union but that did not delay her destiny. She continued to work hard, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in December 2020. Destynie was most recently enrolled in the nursing program at Camp Community College in Franklin, VA. She was preparing to take the test in order to become a Registered Nurse. Destynie was unable to complete this program because her battle with sickle cell disease took a turn for the worst. Destynie lived everyday with purpose, passion, and drive. She lived life as a warrior, and even when she struggles durign a crisis, she persevered. Destynie’s legacy will live on and we will continue to honor #FightLikeDes by advocating and maximizing life through awareness, advocacy, and financial support.
